ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m George I live just outside Exeter with my husband Henry, our two children Florence and Fergus, and a couple of Springer Spaniels.

  • Artistic Blacksmith

It all begins with an idea!

I’m a mostly self-taught, blacksmith who worked for many years as a welder. When I had my children, I had my chance to start my own Blacksmithing business and I never looked back. I always craved the freedom to create beautiful metal pieces and one-of-a-kind, rather than just functional ones. In the last few years, I started expanding my range and making “art”. I have recently joined the South West Sculptors and I’m looking forward to being able to showcase more of my artwork.

  • Busy at work

I get a great deal of enjoyment out of my work. Combining the traditional skills of blacksmithing with my imagination’s ideas for hot metal excites me. I love working on commissioned pieces for clients. I get to interpret their ideas and bring them to life in the metal. At times I find myself challenged; the material doesn’t always behave as I wish it would. But despite the challenges, I love every minute of working at the hot forge. I take inspiration from the natural beauty around me and try to create movement and lightness in a solid material. I feel there is a femininity in my work that balances the masculinity of the ridged metal. I’m continually refining and finessing my skills, often branching out into different styles as I see details in things around that inspire me. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating for you.
